Leech Therapy (Jalaukavacharana) in Jayanagar, Bengaluru
Leech therapy, called Jalaukavacharana in Ayurveda, uses medicinal leeches to draw vitiated blood from an affected area. Because no cutting instrument is used, it is the gentlest form of Raktamokshana and is suited to inflammatory conditions, varicose veins and non-healing wounds.

Are the leeches reused?
No. Leeches used at Swasthi Ayurveda are never transferred between patients. Each patient's leeches are handled and disposed of according to protocol, which is the single most important safety point in this therapy.
This is worth asking about anywhere you receive leech therapy. Reuse across patients carries a blood-borne infection risk that no clinical benefit could justify.
Common questions
The initial attachment is felt as a mild prick. After that most patients feel little, because leech saliva contains a natural anaesthetic compound.
It is avoided in anaemia, bleeding disorders, pregnancy, and for patients on blood-thinning medication. Your history and blood counts are reviewed before it is offered.
Is Leech Therapy right for you?
That depends on findings only an examination can establish. If it is not the right treatment for your case, you will be told so and referred.
