BAMS, MS (Ayu) — Shalya Tantra (General Surgery)

Dr. Sumukhi Ravi

Dr. Sumukhi Ravi is an Ayurvedic surgeon who completed her MS in Shalya Tantra — the surgical branch of Ayurveda — and practises full-time in ano-rectal care at Jayanagar 9th Block. She works principally with Kshara Sutra and Kshara Karma, the para-surgical techniques described by Sushruta, and has published two first-author case reports on Ayurvedic wound healing.

Dr. Sumukhi Ravi graduated BAMS from Ashwini Ayurvedic Medical College & Research Centre, Tumkur, under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, and completed her clinical residency at Shri Kalabyraveshwara Swamy Ayurvedic Medical College in Bengaluru.

She went on to postgraduate training in Shalya Tantra — the surgical branch of Ayurveda — at Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research, Bengaluru, completing her MS (Ayu) in 2024. Her postgraduate research was on Ayurvedic wound management, and it has become the thread running through her clinical work: how tissue is helped to heal cleanly, rather than merely closed.

She has practised since 2021 and founded Swasthi Ayurveda Chikitsalaya in April 2024. The practice is narrow by design. Rather than a general Ayurvedic clinic, it concentrates on ano-rectal conditions — haemorrhoids, anal fissure, fistula-in-ano and pilonidal sinus — treated with Kshara Sutra and Kshara Karma, alongside Ayurvedic pain management and Panchakarma.

Dr. Sumukhi is a woman surgeon in a field where nearly every practitioner is a man. A substantial share of her patients are women who had postponed treatment for years, and many have said plainly that they came because she is a woman. She treats that access as part of the clinical work, not incidental to it.

She consults in Kannada, Hindi and English.

Procedures performed

Swasthi Ayurveda opened in April 2024 and Dr. Sumukhi has practised since 2021. These are the actual figures, not rounded up.

Ano-rectal procedures, all approaches
150+
Kshara Karma applications
45
Kshara Sutra procedures
20

If volume alone is your deciding factor, larger chains in Bengaluru will quote higher numbers. What is offered here instead is postgraduate surgical training in Shalya Tantra, published research in wound healing, and a practice narrow enough that ano-rectal care is the work rather than one service among forty.
